I was kind of hoping for a Cubs/Indians rematch, looks like only the Cubs have a shot at getting there now. I'm confident of their chances, but it's a tossup at this point, like a Wild Card game.

Anybody can win.

Cubs advance, and the 5th inning last night was one of the strangest I've seen in awhile. In the end that was anybody's game, and the Nats are built like the Cubs in that you can never count them out until the last out is recorded.

Seriously, with the game on the line and you're down to your last out in the bottom of the 9th, what team wouldn't want Bryce Harper at the plate? The fact that he went down swinging is irrelevant, that guy could have tied it with one swing of the bat.

On to LA and a rematch with the Dodgers.

I'm not a Yankees fan, at all, but I'm kind of digging them this year.

At least one of the teams in the playoffs is mounting a nice comeback.

I'm of two minds about this year's Cubs team. On the one hand, part of me wouldn't have a problem with them being put out of their misery so as not to prolong things for some of their more rabid fans, of whom I know several.

On the other hand, I've seen them come back from some deep holes, including last year when they went down 3-1 to the Indians. It could be great watching them mount an epic comeback of the type the Red Sox pulled off in 2004. As I recall, there was a guy by the name of Theo Epstein in charge there back then.

Still, Dodgers definitely have the better team, and even if the Cubs can reel off a couple of wins, I doubt they can get 4 in a row here. Their bats are dead, starting pitching can't get past the 5th inning and Joe Maddon doesn't really have confidence in anybody from the bullpen, except maybe Wade Davis.

Hate to see them get swept, but maybe it's for the best to just regroup and retool for next year.

If I declare to be Yankee anything I'll get run out of town where I live.

However, that was a good game they played tonight.

While not popular among my friends, I said after they beat us that I want NY to win it all.

Having grown up in the Boston area and cheering for the Red Sox all my life, even after I moved away, it's a reflex for me to say "Yankees Suck!"

Be that as it may, even I know that having the Yankees being as competitive as they are this year is a positive for baseball. This series with the Astros has had some fantastic games that I hope are bringing in, or bringing back, some fans to a sport that was on a bit of a decline in recent times support wise.

Cubs are putting some work in. Would be nice to see a comeback in the series. I'd like to see the Cubs vs Astros, but the way my life works it'll be exactly the opposite... Yankees vs Dodgers.

In the immortal words of Yogi Berra....."It ain't over till it's over", HOWEVER..... I am cautiously optimistic!

Yanks look like they've caught that mojo that championship teams catch come playoff time. Whatever 'IT' is.....they got it.

The stadium is rocking like it was during those championship runs in the '70's. I was in the old Yankee Stadium for a couple of those.

Somewhere in Texas, Shadow is smiling

That's all I'll say right now.

GO YANKEES!!

I hit the rack instead of staying up to watch the Cubbies, and was pleasantly surprised to find the season wasn't over. I can't take it, sometimes. :)

Smiling like a muthafucka.

One more win against Houston and I'm home-bound to the Bronx for Games 3 and 4 of the World Series on 27-28 October...

...And the epic comeback concludes.

Right now, MLB is drooling over the prospects of a Dodgers/Yankees World Series. Unlike the Cubs, which really had no WS experience that could be mined for use by the modern media (perhaps they could have just shown photos of newspaper coverage from 1908 ) until last year, the Yankees and Dodgers have a ton of history that Joe Buck and whoever is in the booth with him will be returning to.

Wonder how many times in game 1 they'll bring up Kirk Gibson's homer in in the first game of the '88 series? I've heard stories about Lasorda asking one of his coaches if Gibson could go to the plate to pinch hit, and he checked and told him "he can give you one at bat". And it was the only he had in the whole series, and the only one the Dodgers needed.

Yankees, of course, have to close things out against the Astros tonight.
