Colt sold a 4x scope for the M-16 back then. You can fond them online. There is also a knock-off version available.

Looks like TFG and I will have to stage an Intervention.

I recently just read that Troy is making these with 1:12 barrel twists?

Interesting, like the original as well. Some say that is a really good twist rate for 55gr bullets? As was originally designed, but I heard was for a 20" barrel.

All the A1 series of rifles and carbines were 1/12. The very first AR-15 prototype was 1/14, but cold weather testing showed that it couldn't stabilize tracers (correct me if I'm wrong).

The A2 series moved to the 1/7 rate of twist.

How long did it take from the time you ordered it until it shipped?

Nine weeks from start to finish. Shoots better than I remember. I will try and get some pics up soon. As for optics I'll keep it clean and as it comes just like the (olden times) as my son says. It has just replaced my Mod 94 Winchester as my truck gun...

Wow! That's a long wait. Guess I'll stop eagerly checking my email for a tracking number, and get patient. Lol! Thanks Jimmur.

Cerakote "War torn" finish for that "authentic" look.

Can't wait to read range reports.

AR 15 are very much a custom thing nowadays. Distressed look of paint looks cool to many... doesnt make ya a better shooter, but on the range and internet its cool conversation.

Distressed is for posers. Put your own wear on a weapon by shooting it.

God dammit. I think I'm going to build one of these out of an 80%. And since I'm an OCD whore, I'll end up making 2 --- just like everything else I have. Ugh.

You know it's bad when the checkout person at the grocery store even notices that I buy at least two of everything, or in multiples of 2.

So I came up with the parts list for the XM177E2, and it looks like it'll run around $950. I already have the 80%s and the carbine handguards. Cheaper and I will know I won't have to be giving money to those motherfuckers at Troy.
