Yeah, Stan Bowman probably has one of those red phones under glass with a direct line to the Hurricanes GM, like the one in Commisioner Gordon's office.

Bickell is pretty cool, and has really taken his diagnosis in stride. When you hear an interview with him, and he's popped up a few times here because he moved back to Chicago, he's pretty upbeat and involved in a lot of things.

The Hurricanes were good to him, I think most of the NHL is like that when it comes to their players and staff. Much different envioronment than the other major sports.

Hockey comes to Lost Wages, this should be interesting. We used to play at their old shitty rink they had there back in the 80s and 90s. Their teams name was the Gamblers. The rink was 3/4 size which should have been outlawed. You'd no more and get a head of steam up on a rush and you had to suddenly hit the brakes or you'd go crashing into the end boards. At least it had regular boards and glass. Lot of missed practices on that road trip. Coach went MIA a time or two also.

A Las Vegas team named the Gamblers.

How original.

Apparently all the season tix are sold out to the hotels and casinos already. I spent a week at the MGM for a conference earlier this year and they just hit me with an email saying that if I booked 2 nights with them when the Hurricanes were in town I'd get free luxury box or seats up on the glass. Not a bad business model, I think that the Golden Knights wind up doing better than a lot of teams. They'll just get cheered against on most nights by a majority of the crowd however.

They are going to be dogshit this year- its unreal what their GM did during the expansion draft, by getting draft picks in return for picking garbage from the rest of the league. Talk about a tank. I feel bad for Fluery- he is going to see more rubber than a highway this year.

I'm going to have to educate myself on Hockey since Las Vegas has a team. I used to play NHL Hockey on PS1 way back I learned a little but I don't know jack.

So the team based there itself won't have a lot of fans, but all of the fans of other teams will be enticed to fly out to Vegas on some sort of hockey/gambling junket to watch their teams play.

Eventually they'll gain a foothold, but so many of the people who live and work in Vegas and it's surrounding areas are from other parts of the country originally, where they had a rooting interest in the teams they grew up with, if they have any rooting interest in hockey at all.

Jeremy Roenick became famous among even non-hockey fans when his video game avatar, being controlled by Vince Vaughn's character, was featured in the movie Swingers. As I recall, Vaughn kept going to the fight option and had Roenick kicking the shit out of Gretzky, controlled by some other character in the movie.

I don't think it was the PS system, though. It was one of the more primitive systems that were around when the movie was made.

My team in West Covina was the blackhawks. Coach had to talk me out of burning my jersey before every game.

As far as tix, id better get busy on putting the grip on some friends then. Gambling, whores and hockey, have i died and gone to heaven?

Gonna be interesting how that ice holds up, the old rink had shitty ice but the NHL is a better league and it's a new rink. Its still desert and will be hot even in Oct. I played at a rink in Palm springs and that ice wasnt bad but that was before all the golf courses and the humidity being higher there now. Same for vegas, its sweltering now in the summer and early fall. I never played summer hockey leagues, it just didnt feel right with the temps. I need leaves falling and frost on the pumpkin.

On the Vegas being hackers their first year, Scotty Bowman grabbed all the league scrubs to form the Blues in 67. Went to the stanley cup and only lost every game by one goal to the Habs. Not too shabby. Even Spinner has a team pic of the blues from that year on his wall.

1966 i think it was, dad took me to see the minor league team in SLT, the braves, minor league team for the Blackhawks. It was my first pro hockey game since the blues didnt come along till 1967. They were playing KC i believe. KC is giving defenseman Noel Pickard a hard time, every time he skates by their bench they're grabbing his stick and chirping him hard. After a period of this Pick is livid since the ref wont do anything. A whistle blows for an off side and Pick has the puck and he suddenly turns and fires a slapper at the KC bench and waves them all on to the ice. It was bedlam for about 10 mins as he took on 3 guys with the linesmen draped around him too. One strong SOB. He won a Stanley cup with the Habs as a rookie in 1965. A horse ended his short career after rearing and rolling over his foot. Everyone knows Picard by the famous trip of Bobby Orr in the cup in 1970. My folks said I was catatonic for a week after that goal, Orr was my hero but he had just beat my Blues.

Noel Picard passed away Sept 7 2017. RIP Pick.

Absolutely, it serves as a convenient dart board.

As for the ice in Vegas, would building the arena in a kind of bowl configuration help any? Sink the rink and the first tier of seating into the ground, perhaps use some innovative cooling and insulation technology at ice level?

No question though, the ice conditions out there will be marginal at best.

Hawks hung 10 goals on the Penguins, set a season opener record for most goals. Penguins are probably suffering from a double hangover since they've won back to back. Time for them to put the Cup down and sober up.

Joker got a taste of what it was like for me during the first round last year. Sucks to watch your team get shellacked like that.

Let's go Flyers! Oh, and I'll root for the Red Wings too. And whoever's playing the Pens. It was quite nice to see the Pens get shellacked 10-1 last night.

BAHAHAHA I forgot that game was even on, was watching the Caps game.

I watched the last Pre-Season game and the Blues game and it was like they weren't even trying.

It's early, and one day means nothing, but a day when Ovi gets a hattie and the Pens get a 10-spot hung on them is a good day by any standards.

I'm sure they'll pick it up, maybe they thought they were still in the pre-season.

It's a shame the Hawks couldn't have bombarded the Blues with those 10 goals, but that will have to wait until later in the season. Still eagerly awaiting spectr's first animated gif of the new season.

Depends on how serious they are about the team and how much they're willing to spend. Back in the mid-90's they could generate some pretty good ice when they were in the mood. I honestly skated on better 'vegas ice on occasion than we had in the Carlson Center at times. West Palm Beach, now that was some bad ice...

Well shit, Bobby Eyebrows (Fabbri) blew his knee out again in pre season so hes done for the year. Maybe for his career? Can a hockey player come back nowdays from 2 blown knees? The other promising kid Sanford for the blues is sporting a cast on his left arm. Amazingly were 2-0 so far.

I looked at tickets for the Blues in Vegas on oct 21 2017. Hot damn, its $200 for where I usually like to sit. The NHL is close to pricing me out of live games, thats ridiculous. A couple beers, something to eat and parking and youre looking at over $300.

The Pens own the Predators in that building. We even started the backup goalie and they still scored on their first shot.
