7 goals in 2 games for Ovi.
Shame he's over the hill.

We'll give you a toothless Steen, a bag of pucks and pay for his ticket to STL.

Since he's over the hill

Ovechkin is going to be another one of those great Hall of Fame players who never hoists the Cup. His best opportunity to do so will be when he goes to another team toward the end of his career, like Borque finally did.

I was crossing my fingers hoping that no Hockey player would screw with the National Anthem like the NFL. Well some prick on the Lightning started it. He went to my hometown college too. I hope it was an isolated incident. Asshole.

Yea I was about to order Center Ice so I can watch more Pens than Caps and maybe get a Letang jersey for my birthday but that is all on hold right now till I see how they deal with this. I emailed the NHL this morning letting them know.

If this crap continues I may get all caught up on my reading this winter.

That's the thing with the Capitals, though. They always seem to look so good during the season, and are usually in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Then, for whatever reason, they implode at some point. Either they get a couple of bad breaks, or get outplayed or something. Here's a link listing their playoff futility since drafting Ovechkin back in 2004. That's 13 years of futility that shows no sign of ending.

https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2017/5/...rosby-penguins

The Capitals are like the Blues of the Eastern Conference.

Caps D is awful...they need to call up their rookies (which Trotz hates to do) and just bite the bullet and see what Bowey and Djoos can do. Can't be worse than Chorney and Ness.
It's going to be a busy year for Holtby, but the offense shuold be fun. I think Ovi went to the fountain of youth (otherwise known as the gym) over the summer and got himself in shape for this year. Kuzy is awesome, Backstrom may quietly be the most underrated center around, and Oshie is very fun to watch. This team is in for a lot of 5-4 games, I think.

Oh, and that stretch of futility extends well back before Ovi got there. Before the Jagr debacle resulted int eh Caps missing the playoffs and drafting Ovi, the Caps had the second longest streak of consecutive playoff appearances without a Cup (second only to the Blues at the time).

Be kind of funny if Ovechkin wound up with the Blues toward the end of his career and helped them get over the hump and win the Cup.

Two birds, one stone. Shoots and he scores!

Or better yet, he goes to the Blues and they make it to the Cup final, where they wind up playing the Capitals, who go on to raise the Cup a year after Ovechkin moved on. That would really suck for Ovechkin, but that is just the kind of career he's had up until now.

Vegas took James Neal from the Predators in the supplemental draft. I hated to see him go and he's scored 5 goals in the first three games.

The Predators arenít on national tv very often, so they need to take advantage of it when they are. Last nights 6-3 win over the Capitals was one of the most exciting non-playoff games Iíve seen. They traded for Turris last week and he is fitting in well.

The Predators are the team to beat in the West this year. And if the Blackhawks don't step it up real soon, they may find themselves out of the running for even a wild card spot.

Hopefully they can find some winning line combinations, it's not as if they haven't had some good looks at the net. For whatever reason, either the puck isn't getting in there or, as was the case against the Devils the other night, they explode for a bunch of goals early but give up even more to the opposing team in the ensuing periods.

Like all great teams, at some point the Hawks are going to fade as their players get older. We may be looking at the last couple of shots for their core players, minus a couple of key players who are no longer there.

This season is unreal already.

Vegas near the top of the standings? With that roster and using goaltenders out of the ECHL?

The Devils atop the Metro? I would have picked them for dead least.

Oilers near the bottom, with McJesus, Draisaital, RHN, etc? Wow.

Expected the Rangers and Caps to finally fall from grace.

I'm hating the Hurricanes being in the Metro right now. Too many powerhouses clustered together. They should go back to regional alignments- Florida, TB, Canes, Capitals, Columbus. Move Nashville to the east and put them in that division as well.

Spinner, thanks for all your teams players. Scott Darling stood on his head last night. Teravainen is on fire and got a hat trick on Monday that I got to see in person. Kruger is shutting down the opponents first lines, TVR is a solid bottom pairing D man, and Nordstom continues to be a solid 3rd liner.

When the Preds and Hawks meet it will be like watching an intrasquad scrimmage.

With any luck the Blackhawks are turning the corner toward more consistency. They beat the Rangers a couple nights back and then were able to beat the Penguins last night in a great game, their 8th win in a row over them in the last 4 years.

Still, there are a lot of legitimate contenders in both conferences this year. Vegas has been a bit of a surprise, and I cringe every time I look at the standings and see the Blues sitting in first. Hopefully, when the dust settles at the end of the season, my team will be in the mix. Right at the moment they're barely a wild card contender.

You mean when the CANES meet the Hawks. Actually, you guys beat us at home for the first time in like a decade last month because we decided to play Darling, who your players know very well.

Just got back from tonight's game where we crushes the Isles. Teravainen was the first star with two goals. We're Blackhawks South now, and 1 point out of a playoff spot..

Sorry, that's who I meant to say. And yes, it's almost like having a couple of your own Blackhawk lines. Hated to see Teravainen go, and I knew Darling was due for a big contract and chance to be the starter. It's amazing what can happen when you can plug a couple of key players in, like missing pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

Still a lot of hockey left, but at some point coming up the real contenders are going to separate themselves from the rest, and then it will just be a couple of teams in each conference scrambling for the table scraps that are the Wild Card spots.

Looking forward to watching some hockey since half of them are Canadian anyway. Maybe we'll get lucky and some of them will protest over their govts liberal policies LOL. Blue Jackets are doing good so are the Sabres, closest teams to my hometowns.

Well, a wild card did go to the Finals last year.

Itís still way early. The Preds started slow but have won 6 of 7 and looking real good. But I donít get too caught up in it until the last 2 or 3 months.

That is true, they surprised everybody.

I still think they are the team to beat in the West.
