Winter Weather Predictions

According to the Farmer's almanac we are set to have a wet, mild winter.

Mild and snowy is fine for me. (Midwest) I am tired of all of the rain.

Moving from Cleveland to Las Vegas 12 years ago I admit I don’t even know what winter is anymore, which was one motivation for moving here. My 11-year old hasn’t seen snow since she was four so the wife wants to make a trip to a “winter wonderland” this year. I’ve spent 36 years in snow but apparently I’m traveling towards it this year.

Any day there is zero chance of stepping into an ice covered, water filled, deep ass pothole is a good day indeed.

Looks like a polar jet winter without an El Niño pattern.

We have an 800 ft driveway. A snowblower is the only good answer. I used to plow it behind the tractor with an offset plow. With enough snow, the driveway became a tunnel.

We paved the driveway and bought a snowblower which mounts on the front of a John Deere lawn tractor, it works exceedingly well.

Mild an wet is great if you are not building slab on grade...😡

Oh well, we have been fortunate to have just enough rain to keep things green and growing, and not quite enough to slow down the building.

CPTAUSRET,

Still trying to wrap my head around how paving 8 to 10,000 ft.² of driveway is cheaper than hiring a guy for the rest of your life, and probably mine...

But hey, if it works for me it works for you.

I really don't care. I hope it snows its ass off.

Terry. An 800ft driveway really sounds more like a killing field. Firebase Nancy?

You just described several of my winters at Ft Drum :)

I am OK with mild and wet or cold and snowy in Montana. Gives me more time to fish, either fly or ice. Either way as long as we some form of precipitation (rain/snow or a combination of both).

Cold, snowy all across Tennessee? That'll be the day. Mild, wet is where my bet would be.

Last 3 winters in Ohio were brutally cold. I like the snow but don't get to play in it anymore. 5 degrees for a week straight several times per season was crazy for my lifetime.

I wore shorts for my last Christmas and had to wear a wetsuit for the entire “winter” last year. I am tired of the mild, wet winters! I want some cold, dry ones for a while and according to the almanac, I may get a cold one, but wet. I guess I should be happy with that!

I think winter is great and the more snow, the better.

Judah Cohen (http://www.judahcohen.org/"][/URL]) sees a positive direct correlation between October snows in Siberia and snow fall total in North America: more snow in Siberia means more snow in for us. I can't find a reliable prediction from him for 2017 Siberia snow totals. I have been hearing about this prediction model for a few years, but have no way to know if it is accurate.

I would like December 21 to kick off with a high temperature of about 22-24 degrees, colder overnight, and stay that way all the way through spring with little or no precipitation.

Last year sucked for outdoor hockey.

I really just don't want -20 again. God that was ridiculous. Still waiting for my Nordic/Germanic blood to kick in. So far no dice......

I don't care as long as the heat rolls out soon. The process is starting here and there but every year, "winter" becomes more and more like fall. Not nearly as cold.

What, you want 33 degrees, 2 feet of snow, and shitty drivers?
