Did a safari many years ago in SA. Guide was a professional hunter for 20 years. He said a Cape Buffalo will actually stalk you and lay ambushes w/multiple buffalos. He also said it takes more than a few rounds to finish one.

Just sayin....

last buff hunt I was around (I wasnt present at the time they took the buff.. but I was in camp and saw the aftermath).. it took 6x rounds of 375 H&H to take the brute down..

3 of those hits were to vitals.. and they still had to continue to shoot him and pursue him for an additional 45 minutes after the first hit..

not a pleasant beast...

should make for an interesting hunt though! :)

I have been on several cape buffalo hunts and am amazed at the punishment they can suck up. God definitely built those things with a back up generator.

That and every one of them looks at you like you owe them money.

Caught this sneaky fucker bedded down in some white oak laps early this morning...not a bad shot with my recurve, but a long trail to finally track him down.

Mingo or the deer?

One of my fishing buds is a 69yo Nam vet. He's an avid hunter, but he's getting a little long in the tooth for stomping the mountains. I took him up this morning on my 4 wheeler and put him in one of my stands. About 10 mins after daylight he shot, so I'm waiting on him to text and say bring the 4 wheeler to drag. We're either sex the whole year so I'd guess he probably whacked a nice tasty doe.

Great job on that buck, MK! Some of those long tracking kills can be brutal. I am constantly amazed at the survival instincts in these animals we eat! I do enjoy a good scavenger hunt though as it keeps the old skills sharp!

Well done on the buck Mingo!

I may get out at the end of January during the antler less hunt, we'll see.
