Dwight Schuh, one of the most renowned hunters of our lives passed away in February of this year. He succumbed to agent orange at 75. He loved God, his family and his country. He was a great outdoorsman, writer, speaker and a man of many talents and incredible endurance. He started competing later in life( in his 60's) in endurance races, triathalons and super triathalons. He will be missed in the bowhunting community and I have enjoyed his articles for many years. Rest in Peace, Soldier, you are home with your Savior.

I had a nice food plot like that last year about 3 months before bow season. Come the first day of bow season it looked like someone put a lawnmower on the lowest setting and cut it.

No bear sightings here yet thank God. But I've seen over a dozen fawns. Mostly a single one. Helped 1 last week go up a 5 ft bank mama ran up and its legs were still wobbly. No more than a day or two old.

Our pet is back. Eating up everything in the yard including my spouse units flower bed.

Try wrapping fishing line around your garden or flower bed like a fence...really fucks with the deer and smaller critters, helps quite a bit and cheap.

My grandfather had an enormous truck patch, plus beds of strawberry runners and grapevines. Use to run mono line around the perimeters, and hang small mesh bags at intervals.
Wasn't until I spent a summer living with them that I realized what the bags were for.
Fond memories as a kid of being woken at O-dark on warm Saturdays to go sit in the Danville barber shop while he got his weekly trim and shave, sneak peeks at the fishing mags and Playboys piled on the corner table, and then come home with hair sweepings from the week to refresh those bags as deer repellent.

And keeping the thread on point, being allowed to sit in the second story garage gable window and snipe with a Marlin 38 at the bunnies that ignored the hair and played hell with his veggies.

BTW I put in for Iowa Archery Whitetail this year. Zone 3. Low probability of getting drawn until you have three or more preference points so we'll see. Does anyone know when the draw results are posted?

So, the local bears have been getting into things and crapping all over the place. I've been teaching my grandson to identify what the bears have been eating from their shit. I had a small tile job to do at the house and dumped the extra thinset mortar in the yard so it would dry and I could get rid of it. He came in this morning and said "Paw Paw, the bear ate concrete"

Awesome!

Got pictures of a sow and two small cubs on the trail cameras behind the house. First pictures I have had of cubs, it is usually a young male that wanders through and is never seen again until the next June.
