Im watching this one as well. With 3 full months left in the season, it seems to just now be getting active. I recently upgraded all my windows in the spring to hurricane impact glass, that requires no shutters to cover them, but I am not real excited on testing them out if ya know what I mean.

I am still waiting for someone to finance my hurricane/tornado/flood resilient concrete home design . I could retire from my janitorial duties! I worked Katrina and they rebuilt the homes with the same shoddy, concrete block and wood frame construction. Oh, they did use hurricane clips on the trusses, my bad!

Plywood behind the glass, FAIL.

I just got a glimpse of the 1152 page proposed 2018 North Carolina building code.

There are specifications on how to apply protection when boarding up on the coast line. Details include types of approved plywood and spacing and specs on the screws required.

Inside the building was not mentioned… Big fucking :-).

The WX talking heads in Florida are getting tumescent over Irma, however track guidance is currently showing that the cyclone will jog north as the mid-Atlantic high pressure system recedes to the northeast. This is the latest spaghetti model but the storm is still several days away and could shift at any time.

Gas shortages right around the holiday weekend. I'm not traveling but may affect those who do. Plan ahead. Gas here was $2.36 a gal Monday. I filled up the truck this morning... $2.69 gal and the owner said he had no idea when he would get a resupply.

Latest we've heard is wait 3-4 days for the gas supply to return to something resembling normal.

A large proportion of the city has returned to normal, near as I can tell. If you're along a bayou, or near the two major reservoirs, you're still under water.

Supposedly grocery stores are normalizing too, trouble is the panic buying now - we all saw it with .22LR ammo, same shit applies to milk.

On the sunnier side, we're getting a cold front about 2 months early, which, part of the major suckage with these things is having no power (i.e. aircon) on a 98F day. Next week it's supposed to be 80/64, that's a godsend to those without power. Plus, I think I could make a case for deducting a bass boat on my taxes!

Florida, the Governor has declared a state of emergency for Irma. Still a chance that it turns north. Water is flying off the shelves, gas prices are up a little. Time to oil up what guns I might have.

The surface analysis charts are coming into focus for Irma and it looks like Miami through Vero Beach are in the storm's direct path. It also looks like the eye will stay in the warm waters just off the coast, which will prevent weakening. Where I'm at in Broward county it will be a 24-hour wind and water event. I'm going to shutter on Thursday and Friday, load the vehicles and evacuate on Saturday morning west, then north, then west to the Panhandle. I'm taking no chances with this beast.

Here's Days 5 through 7. Valid dates and times in the lower left.

Old man's flying into Orlando for his Vietnam reunion on Wednesday. He'll be hitting the supermarkets for cases of water and etc to stash in his hotel upon arrival.
