He was Gunny Ellis when I knew him. He was the hardest dude in our Battalion. We all wanted to be him. Man what a sharp Marine he was,......

RIP Sgt. Major Ellis

"Sergeant Major Joe Ellis"

Whether I think about him, read his name, hear it from other Marines or my family brings his family up, it always makes me smile and I reflect on a few things...

Then a few minutes later......I can imagine him watching me..... and I know he is thinking:

"Why in the fuck are you wasting minutes of your life with that stupid look on your face? Go lead people/train people/fix whatever/mentor people/push yourself & those around you/enjoy yourself & those around you, wherever you are and in whatever circumstance you find yourself in, you idiot! Enjoy your life!"

That is what he will always mean to us.
