Inuit ULU knife

Anybody using an ulu for anything?
A SOCNETter gave me one as a gift about two years ago, and in that time it has become a kitchen favorite of mine, such that I'm considering getting another to complement the first.

Sharpened only on one side, like a hewing axe, these ulu knives are wicked useful.

I used one for fleshing beaver skins for awhile. Never quite got the hang of it. I can see the uses, just never got enough practice with one to be proficient.

My Mother’s brother had one. Don’t know what happened to it since they both have passed. I’ll have to ask my father. He was the one that explained to me what it was.

If I remember correctly, it was the first knife young Eskimo used and the first one to draw blood from that young Eskimo.

And yes it was a skinning knife.

Great kitchen tool!

Not bad for skinning either if you can get the hang of it.

Watched an Eskimo skin a seal(the animal, not the gel haired operator type) unbelievably fast.

Got this as a Christmas present about three years ago.
Good for "rocking" back and forth to chop peppers and
onions for guacamole.
Razor sharp, keep your fingers out of the way.

Plastic inexpensive one does most of the veggies and such, bone handled, hand made from scrap blade one works on meat and skinning.
Great tools!

Most pizza places use an oversized ulu to cut their pizzas...
