Right now the focus is on the southern border. There are Border Patrol stations all along the southern and northern borders, and there are still several stations within the interior of the United States.

Border Patrol Academy training in Artesia NM is followed by field training at the new agent's assigned duty station. A new agent will have a station assigned before they attend the academy. As a regular agent you are able to stay at the same station for your entire career but you are subject to involuntary temporary details to other stations from 30 to 45 days at a time. Voluntary details from the Border Patrol (DEA, HSI, ATF task forces, etc.) tend to last one to two years.

If you are willing to move around, it is easier to promote if that is the path you choose.

Answers on current hiring processes and assignments can be also be found on www.honorfirst.com .

You can also find other applicants and BP agents that answer a lot of the questions at http://forums.delphiforums.com/borderpatrol . INSCOP is the host of the forum and is a 20 year veteran. A lot of good information you can find without even having to ask questions.

You can also see a timeline of the process to get feel for how long it takes and even possibly link up with people that picked the same duty station you did.

You are absolutely correct. That forum is well regulated by retired USBP Agent Ray Harris aka INSCOP who owns and operates the www.honorfirst.com website. The website is linked to the forum.
