Bump.

19 years and I still remember it like yesterday. I miss them all dearly, but especially Ski. He was my first TL as a Recon Marine, a true warrior and a Man among Men. I love you brother, NEVER forgotten.

Continue to RIP, Brothers.

I knew SSgt Ski while he was at 3rd Det Force/SRIG and I was in SCAMP. I shared the head in the barracks with a close friend who moved from SCAMP to Force. He was on SSgt Ski's team, and he thought Ski was the perfect example of a Recon Marine.

For my part, I was extremely fortunate to do a lot of cross training with the guys at Force, including SSgt Ski, and we had more than a few beverages together. I only wish I had the chance to know him better. I will raise one for Ski - and all others lost that day - tonight.

Rough day Brother. It's as vivid today as when Russ C and Chucky W knocked on my door to tell me.

Yea, me, Bill & Willy T went with Big Bob, Col Ski, SgtMaj Naughton and the Chaplain to knock on doors that night. Our wive's trailed us in a "follow" car. It was ominous when we rolled up to Ski's house as all the wives were there. It was like they "knew" but hadn't been told officially. When Coate's .gov SUV pulled up out front, the wailing from the wives is something I'll never forget. A day or two later Willy T and I picked up Ski's brother Matt, from the airport for the memorial etc. We were standing at the bottom of the escalator at the arriving gate and as soon as Willy T and I saw him it was like looking at a ghost how much they looked alike.

That happened again to Matt at a geedunk in the Iraq ~2005. He suddenly realized a couple guys were staring at him him all wide-eyed and freaked out. They thought they were seeing a ghost.

I honestly thought I had replied to this thread years ago. I met Ski in 7th grade. We were tight. Even have the same birthday. His wife and son live about a klick from me. He was a crazy SOB and real pro. That guy could pull info out if his brain like nobody I ever met. You'd think he wrote FMFM 2-2 and the Ranger Handbook. Doc Asis was one of my students at ARS and honor grad for his class. Solid guy. When I first saw him I thought "No fucking way is this soft-spoken little fucker gonna make it". I've been wronger, but not by a lot. Dave Galloway I knew and served with. We were friendly but not close. Another solid guy and quiet professional.

That was a bad day.

And that's why they named their son Nick. BTW, you need to get your ass out here soon. No, I'm not going to Maine, at least not during the winter.
