Didn't know this was so far along. Trailer drops Thursday, and the movie comes out in January.

I'm glad Jerry Bruckheimer has it all figured out. He gets the award for most insipid, brainless, and ignorant comment of the day.

I see Taylor Sheridan has a role, he's mostly been writing for the last few years, including a couple of my favorite recent flicks, Hell or High Water and Sicario.

Rob Riggle is in it, too.

Interesting that the military tech advisor is Navy SEAL Kevin Kent rather than someone from the SF side.

The RUMINT going around in the SF community is that the Soldiers from the those teams went to the producers; and offered up to be the technical advisors for the movie. They were told 'no' by film's leadership.

Again, this is RUMINT, but some folks in the community are trying to develop the situation.

If it turns out to be true, I plan to boycott the movie.

The film is "based on true events," in the sense that 9/11 and the initial US military action are true events. Pretty much everything else is pure Hollywood.

So hopefully we don't see a lot of "Do Rags" and machine gun ammo strapped on Rambo style.

SF soldiers on horses firing M4s with one hand at full gallop...sets the tone for the level of fidelity to reality.

Bruckhiemer has always been very pro military, pro USA and is apparently one of the few conservatives in Hollywood.

I would chalk it up to him trying to say a movie=Tails, that portrays the USA in a good light in recent history and what our troops did.

Maybe he could articulate it better, however, I don't think he had some anti-American/anti-Military, or ignorant malice in his statement IMO.

Not unusual. Producers/directors often would rather work with folks they have experience with than someone they haven't. Even if that someone has more directly relevant experience to the issue at hand.

One thing I hear a lot is concern that advisors can be so focused on accuracy that they forget they are making entertainment. Which causes friction on set. The best advisors have to figure out the right balance between the two and how to convey that to the creatives.

Horse related anecdote: Back in the day South Africa had a "berede" (google the word if interested) unit that fell under SWASpes. Horse and XR500 mounted guys. I don't know much about their effectiveness but the XR500 guys were wheelie kings :)

Just saw it. I thought it was ok. Somewhat disappointed. It was odd seeing Rob Riggle in a serious role.

Almost walked out of the theater, I felt like I was watching a Seal movie.

Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter and Platoon all make you become interested in the story and not really care about the explosions. Hell, Red Dawn even gives a story that you want to watch. This story has facts and real people that could have explained why an ODA was the perfect choice for this mission.

Instead we watched DA on horses. Great shooting btw, I'm guessing that horse ambushes will be added to SUT?

I can't bring myself to go see it. The intro was so bad that I cringed.

I suspect it is a lot like The Hurt Locker, which everyone who knew nothing about the .mil and the .war agreed was the most realistic war movie of its generation.

A retired SF friend watched it today. Had good things to say about it.

How did they fit in the LGBTQ angle? You can't have a movie these days without it.

Can anybody recommend a good book about this Op? I find it very interesting, but the movie trailer looked a little too hollywooded up for me.
