Beautiful pups! Love those labs!!! If my wife wasn't allergic, I'd have 2-3 of them running around as the kids love them too. Instead we go for family walks in our neighborhood and our kids mug every dog walker so they can get their puppy time.

This is my pup. 8 mo's old and runs like crazy. Had a local ex-Navy specwar dog handler start her training. Absolutely great dog and smart as hell.

She's pretty close to being my dog's twin sister.

ugh... Its cold in Alaska. We had a RARE snow for like 12 hours here a few days ago. The pup thought it is was the greatest thing ever.

Good luck with the pup.

He's a great looking dog. I'm partial to GSD and Mals.

Below's "The Beast" who is now 10 months old.

I love GSDs, have owned 3, all were great dogs that lived long, happy lives. This is my first Mal...he's a true Mal, stubborn, dumb as a sack of hammers, very fun. Mals make great working dogs, and problematic pets. We love this one, Mal tendencies and all.

Fucking hell, that is a beautiful pup! I was pushing hard for either a GSD or a Mal...the wife was NOT up for it. So too that end we now have received this precious cargo. Who, yes, was up most of last night. Had me laughing my ass off with his howling.

Let me ask this, Husky's are rated "not for inexperienced owners".... I understand that Mals are the same. I've basically owned Husky's and Akita's, I was a dog trainer a million years ago pre-Army.

So my question: How fucking hard is it with a Mal??

I consider myself rather experienced when it comes to this kind of stuff, but you read the descriptions and fuck...makes you think. To be honest, when we first looked into Huskies their description and stories made me nervous.

I get the feeling that they write these things in the extreme in order to make people shy away.

Thoughts? I'm kind of sad we didn't get the Mal but this guy is pretty fucking awesome. Fairly certain his name will be ROCK, after Rock DZ! Fuck yeah.

Great looking dogs. I grew up with German Shepherds in my house. I have a Husky now and when he was a young pup --- my God, the energy they had. Still has a lot of energy, but oddly enough, doesn't like the colder weather (unlike when he was younger you literally couldn't get him inside if the temps were below 40F) anymore. And even though they make a racket like no other with the "talking", it's more enjoyable to me than a conventional barking from a dog.

FWIW, the LEO in house here just got a new K9 unit, named "dragon". Looks a lot like Mixed's dog, except in brown. Apparently you're not supposed to pet him and love him like a normal dog, but he'll (the dog) sometimes come up to you when he's around the office and jump up and wrap those big paws around you and you can't help but pet him like he's your own. Really love dogs. Awesome animals.

To put it to you this way, Mals don't tend to be dogs that compliment someone's lifestyle - they are a lifestyle that you adjust to.

I can't put it to you in any other way than dating a competitive Cross Fitter. It's nonstop action and in some cases never slows down. Most people out there can't handle it and end up melting down, giving the dog back after it ate most of their furniture, and everyone feels a bit defeated.

With that being said, Mals are also some of the best dogs in the world to have if you're active, want to train them, and like competing. The biggest fear I'd have owning a Mal is ruining it by not giving it exactly what it needs.

As for a working line GSD, such as Axel, you're going to also have very high drive, but a much better off switch in terms of being able to chill out.

In the end, I would suggest starting with a WL GSD if you've never had a high-drive dog. Get your dog from a reputable, experienced, breeder who will match the dog to you.

The first sign to run away from a working dog breeder is when they let you pick your dog and don't put you through a pretty rigorous interview process.

I had a German Shepherd up until he bit my little brother. My parents sent him to "a farm". I still kind of wish we'd kept the dog and sent my brother to "a farm"...
