40 Million Fire Extinguishers Recalled

I checked mine and have a free new one coming to replace one in my camper. I just have to send the old one in when it arrives. According to a few friends the return is also free shipping. On the website it tells how to see if yours is on the list of recalled ones.

https://www.livescience.com/60856-fi...er-recall.html

More than 40 million fire extinguishers sold over a four-decade period have been recalled because they may not work to put out fires, according to an announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The extinguishers, sold by Kidde, can become clogged or "require excessive force to discharge," and fail to work during a fire emergency, the CPSC said. In addition, the nozzles on some of the extinguishers can detach with enough force to potentially injure someone.

So far, the CPSC has received nearly 400 reports of cases in which the recalled fire extinguishers failed to work properly. These included 91 reports of property damage, 16 reports of injuries (such as smoke inhalation and minor burns) and one death. The death, which occurred in 2014, happened when emergency responders tried to put out a car fire with a Kidde fire extinguisher, but could not get the extinguisher to work, CPSC said.

Thank you for reminding me about this.

I just checked mine, they are good to go, but I think I'm going to replace them anyway. Use the old ones for remedial training for the wife, I think her firefighting qual has expired...

The 1 pound extinguisher in the kitchen is a recall. The 5 # in the pantry is good, as is the 10 # in the garage.

Thanks for the info... I had no idea

10# in garage is good.

The FAA has released a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB: CE-18-05) regarding this as well. So, if you have one or more of these in your bird, you might want to send it in via Kidde's recall.

Thank you for this! I have 2 of them, the link to the replacement request is fairly straightforward: https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284US/ and see links at bottom of page.

I have Turns out that the smallest one on the kitchen is GTG (horizontal pull pin and curved handle) but the middle one (5 pound) in the pantry is affected (vertical pull pin and straight handle).

Data entry is pretty easy: name, address, phone, serial number, model, year of purchase, and the date of manufacture code, hit enter, and its ordered... Ships in less than two weeks.

Replacement extinguisher (red) arrived today. They want the recalled extinguisher (white) returned in the shipping box using a pre-paid FedEx label.

Can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems amiss; six pounder for a 10.
