My now 5 year old lab/pitt mix, Tinkerbell. She's the best dog I've ever owned and if she isn't on my heals, you can tell who she "escorts" around the house. Awesome dog.

Best dog I ever had was a Black Lab/Bloodhound mix named Max. Smart, loved pretty much everybody but he was a barker so he was a good warning system. Don't have any pics handy but we only had him a short time before we had to put him down. He had red mange and none of the dip baths worked. Wish he was still around.

Our eight-year old lab, LT, and his four-year old little sheltie brother, Tucker. Great dogs.

Great dog
Mine are too smart for their own good. The blue merle is Sally, our first. She would see me come out in my overalls and go get the horses. When she saw me come out in my BDU's, she gathered the other dogs into their kennels, as she knew I was going to work.

My rescue Irish Setter Georgia - had her 8 years now, got her from the Alexandria shelter after the yuppie couple who wanted a pretty dog didn't realize you can't crate a dog made to run100 miles per day for 18 hours then give it a walk around the block. We're pretty inseperable. She loves to go for rides and I can walk her downtown off leash - she'll go up to the corner and just stand there and wait for the command to cross the street. Hates squirrels and has caught a few when she was younger. She will crouch like a cat and has spent up to 30 minutes stalking one before pouncing and shaking it to death.

Smart as all hell, too, knows exactly what she can get away with and what she can't. Hasn't figured out that just because she gets off the couch 5 minutes before I get home from work and lays down on the floor in front of the door that I can't see the impression where she was just laying on it

Will raise holy hell when someone knocks on the door or walks past the front yard and wants to nuke the UPS truck, but once inside she's very friendly - does the job though since no one walking by would suspect that.

This is her last year after one of the big snow dumps in DC...

I'm thing of getting another dog, I'm partial to the northern breeds. But absolutely love Heelers, Aus Sheps, cow dogs, dingo type, etc....

My husky is absolutely useless as a warning system....useless, lol, it's kind of funny how ridiculous it is. She simply won't alert, although the other night - I must give her some credit - she woke me up when the power went out.

I'm thinking about something that will be a bit more alert with what's going on outside of the house, and I hate to say it...but perhaps bark every now and then, when something is going on.

Seeing all these pics of awesome dogs, makes me miss mine. The AV on my screen is a dog I lost to lymphatic cancer. A couple of weeks before I return back to the Stan, I got my wife a sheltie mix retriever, Molly who is driving my wife crazy. Then before I went back on my last break, my wife adopted a dog who we still can't figure out what breed he is, part lab maybe pit, but a sweetheart. Fell in love with a 7 years old dog who's last owner died on the floor in his house and no one knows how long he was there. The animal shelter had to muzzled and sedated him. But now he's normal...of course he's missing me. Sleeps next to my side of the bed on my woobie. Can't wait to get home and see my Jake and Molly. Got to get a pic of those 2 clowns on here..

All you folks have nice dogs.
I switched to a cat as I don't have time to properly train a dog.
On weekends I help at a shelter and get my dog fix.

Ah, I forgot to formally introduce them, thanks for pointing that out!

The top photo is my latest acquisition, Roxy. Got her from a guy for $100. Best dog I ever had. Smart and classy. Knows all the commands, and has never been "trained". She would be a top notch working dog.

The other two are Sasha (I tell everyone she is a wild African hunting dog), and Max, my "firstborn son". He is the only purebred I ever owned. Not a bad dog, but I'll stick with mutts.

Sasha has the tiger stripes, she is part Pit or part Ridgeback, we aren't sure. Her "ridge" stands straight up when she gets excited, angry or scared. Smart as a whip, but the worst behaved of the bunch. Definitely would be the best dog if she was the ONLY dog.

Giant George!! 250 lbs and plays fetch with a NFL regulation football!

I am actually looking for a dog right now, I want to try and rescue. I have two small children and my wife has a Mini Yorkie and a cat. I'm just looking for a companion for the family, to take fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, and trail riding in the Jeep. Any recommendations?

My Ninja Dog

He is a rescue named Cato. He trained very easily, and quite obviously he and the cat love to "play"

The Golden was SaraDog, a real character who went where I went for ten years before dying a couple of years ago. Here she's with me in Southern Utah where I was managing a horse ranch, and where she was with me every minute of my day and loved hanging with the horses.
The Shepherd-looking fellow is Zach, part Shepherd, Malamute, and Rottweiler.
Great dog.
