Still debating getting a Steyr Scout again, or just fixing up my older Marlin 30-30 as a scout again. Need to get a new, slightly larger, lever loop. And get a new stock for the rifle. But, it is a very accurate shooter and I have hundreds of rounds of 30-30.

Stick with the old Marlin, tweak it up a bit, and spend the savings on more ammo to add to the hundreds you already have....

Well, I also have hundred of round of match grade .308, but not .308 platform. Maybe have two scout rifles.

Starting this year both .308 and 30-30 are allowed for Deer hunting in Indiana. But, still no 45-70.

You'll need to send that dangerous .308 to me for safekeeping and ultimate disposal ASAP... God only knows what it could do to your home should it go critical

Sold that a couple of months ago. The $3.50 per round and having my shoulder black and blue is no longer appealing. Was a beautiful Ruger #1 though. Don't see a need for a .375 H&H unless going back to Africa, and that is not happening any time soon.

I really want an excuse to get that Henry 45-70. Indiana makes no sense. .458 socom and .300 magnum allowed, but no 45-70. Hec, I can reach out farther with my .50 cal Encore, if I load it right, than I can with a 45-70.

Ditto. I can give them a great home with a nice .308 family!

45-70 is the perfect Indiana deer rifle. Therefore you can't have one.

Gunk, did you see the list of the new 28 calibers allowed? Some I have never even heard of before.

6mm-06
• 6mm BR Remington
• 6mm PPC
• 6mm Remington
• .240 Weatherby
• .243 Winchester
• .243 Winchester Super Short Magnum
• .30 Carbine
• .30 Herrett
• .30 Remington AR
• .30-06 Springfield
• .30-30 Winchester
• .30-40 Krag
• .300 AAC Blackout (.300 Whisper)
• .300 H&H Magnum
• .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum
• .300 Savage
• .300 Weatherby Magnum
• .300 Winchester Magnum
• .300 Winchester Short Magnum
• .300 Remington Ultra Magnum
• .308 Marlin
• .308 Winchester
• 7.62x39mm
• 7.62x54mmR

It is good to know I can take that 300 blackout AR platform or my AK-47 out for hunting, but God forbid I am roaming the woods with a 45-70 lever action.

6mm Remington is a dandy deer rifle. But I probably think your Indiana deer have some size to them. Can't go wrong with the.308 for deer anywhere. Why no 25/06 on the list?

Don't make sense to have the 300 WSM & 300 Rem Ultra Mag on their and skip some fine other calibers.

NO... he's sending all his .308 to jdogonroad and myself...

He needs to petition his legislature to fix the oversight on the 45/70.

If you're allowing a cannon like the Ultramags on the list, there really isn't a reason to have a list at all, just say nothing larger in bore than .458inch or case longer than 3inch/75mm. And that's just to rule out the clowns who'd use 50cal BMG. S/F....Ken M

I don't think the Indiana fish & game or lawmakers have any idea of ballistics/trajectory.

I received a Steyr promotional email - it showed this SBS Tactical for $1265. That's a very good price for a fine rifle.

Amen! I have a Steyr model L full stock in 308 that I hunt with in PA; 5lbs loaded. Steyr quality and customer service is excellent.
