Help Us Save the National Medal of Honor Museum
Next Friday, I will be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for the National Medal of Honor Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This museum has the medals and artifacts of 9 MOH recipients. When initially started, it showed great promise but fell on tough times and now is scratching out a meager existence. Without help, it will likely close its doors forever.
Because the museum had some issues, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society (composed of the living recipients of the Medal of Honor) decided to affiliate with the CMOH Museum on the USS Lexington many years ago. That museum opened last year I believe. While better funded, the museum there displays mostly pictures and little artifacts following the vogue trend in expensive visual museums that show fewer artifacts. The one in Chattanooga however has its items well displayed and is under excellent management to meet its future challenges. Unfortunately, because of past hard times and poor publicity, few in Chattanooga or across the country have been willing to breathe new life into it. I was contacted by the director of the museum to help them with a fundraiser dinner and a fundraising campaign. My organization will make not a single dime from any donations, and all proceeds will go directly to the museum. The donations will be tax deductible to those where it applies. Please go to this link if you would like to help in this effort or want to learn more. http://www.vets4victory.com/index.html Thanks for reading and I hope I have not violated any rules here to call this to your attention. I thought folks here would want to know. Thanks, Steve ![]() |

While I've never been to the museum in Chattanooga (didn't know it existed) I've been to the CV 10 USS Lexinton swinging at anchor in Charlston, SC. About a quarter of her hanger deck is dedicated to the MOH Museum, which was unfortunately closed due to major renovations while we were there.
If you've an opportunity to visit, I highly recommend it. Be sure to bring your 8 year-old boy and sign on for a couple day visit, sleeping on board. Very cool experience for the kids, and you'll dig it too... well, maybe the swabbies amongst us might not think its so cool :0
