Damn...
Jesus...
So, I have been off comms for a long time for various reasons. I just saw this about Andy. This is absolutely crushing. I will always cherish our talks and infinite ridicule. Loved that guy. Andy, I hope you are at peace and I will see you on the other side. RIP Brother.

I celebrated my 10th year cancer free today. Wish Andy was still here to do the same. Godspeed SOTB.

As I was reading thru the condolences, I got to KidA’s and thought it could not be put more eloquently, thoroughly or accurately as that. What I remember most about SOTB was that he was an agitator, in a good way. He made you rethink your opinions, analyze the basis for them and question their validity. He was a proud, sometimes worried but always caring and supportive father. He was a mentor and friend to many. He was a true warrior that put every ounce of his being into the fight and would fight to the death. To quote him: Fuck Cancer – you took his body but you will never conquer his soul.
RIP, Andy. You did make a difference. May God swiftly heal the loss of those you loved and love you and may they be transported ASAP to a time when memories of you bring smiles instead of tears. |

That's a great post. Andy was a great guy. We disagreed about a lot but he provided me with some serious help when I needed it and gave me.some excellent life advice that I'm very glad I took. He was an original.

Met Andy in carbine class in TX years ago, he was a great guy then and I loved how he could make a point or debate on the site. Truly a gift to the board in so many ways. I missed his interaction immediately after his departure. While I was just a spectator, it struck home all the same.
M RIP |

I've been gone for some time, growing up etc. I was curious about everything going on in the world and wanted to gain some outside perspective. I logged in and saw a few avatars with RIP SOTB and stumbled on this thread. I can't really describe my feelings knowing that South Of The Border passed away, leaving such a hole in this community.
I remember when KidA first joined and how I quietly cheered him on in the Lounge as a fellow punk rocker/Vespa fan, taking his lumps in the Lounge. SOTB seemed to be the first BTDT to break the mold and step up to show public support for KidA. I think it just speaks to an immense desire to be authentic and go his own way. Whether it was about geopolitical unrest, or about your girlfriend's ass... he had his opinion and that was that. With that said, I'll slap a "GAY!" on this post. RIP SOTB. You are, without a doubt, 1 in 100000000000000000000. |

I was reading through some old posts as I tend to do from time to time, and noticed that as of midnight here in Houston, it's 5 years since SOTB passed. I only lurked here when he passed, but still remember scrolling through the forums and seeing this thread title and it taking a minute to really click and set in. As a nobody lurker, I was shocked and saddened reading about the death of a person I didn't know and would probably never meet, even if SOTB lived to be a modern Methuselah. I rate as less than nothing compared to him, but even I could see what a meticulous, highly inquisitive and fierce mind the man behind the screen name possessed and that he was obviously an influential thought leader, who through sheer brilliant willpower, massively helped shape a really amazing message board and community filled with very intelligent people of all type. (I can only imagine what he achieved in the real world.)
all of that is to say, since I can now actually humbly pay my respects, RIP SOTB. I imagine your mind would be ablaze looking at the world's problems in 2021, and we are all lesser for not being able to know what you think. and I'm thankful to all the SOCNET staff/admins et al that maintain this site and database so his wisdom (and others, of course) can live on in perpetuity. Respectfully. |

Rest In Peace, SOTB. Thank you for sharing so much of your life story and wisdom on SOCNET. Your words and your example helped me better deal with my own challenges in life (and I am sure it helped many others, as well). I will keep you in my prayers tonight. God Bless.

I think of Andy most when I think of Mexico. We'd meet usually in Mexico City or sometimes in Guadalajara. Andy had a unique ability to easily make sense of all of the goings-on in Mexico.
I miss ya bro.
