Col Paris Davis

Col Davis will finally receive the Medal of Honor for his actions on 18 July 1965 in command of A-321, 5th Special Forces Group with the 883rd Regional Forces Company in attacking a Viet Cong Regimental Headquarters. His report is part of his Wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Davis.

He'd been twice nominated for the Medal, but paperwork was lost both times.

Well done, sir.

It is about time..
Thank you for serving and leading.

My father was stationed in the Bong Son area in 1968 and 1969. My father said it was a cross between beauty and hell.

The maxim: Government rule ends at the village gates", is especially true for the Bong Son/Binh Dinh Province area.

The Crow's Foot, the Kirn Son runs north into the rich coastal plain of northern Binh Dlnh proveince, where five per cent of South Viet Nam's people live. " The Crow's Foot is Viet Cong country, has been for years. The central government has never shown its people anything but tax assessments, and popular feelings run close to 100 per cent with the insurgents. Several thousand farmers live in these valleys. They are said to grow four rice crops a year—an amazing feat, if true—and It all goes to the Viet Cong. Perhaps it's just that the VC get so much rice from the Crow's Foot that everyone believes it must produce four crops a year. Many of its families are producing their second generation of guerillas."

A truly unwelcoming place for visitors.

I'm glad he got the award in time for him to wear it while he pisses on Dick Kattar's grave.

I didn't always agree with all of COL Davis's policies but he was a hell of a leader in the pre-SOCOM days back when SF wasn't cool. I remember some guys in C/3/10 wearing patrol caps in garrison instead of berets to protest COL Davis's relief from command.
