I knew Art McCann pretty well. We were working the same door on chalk 3 during OJC jump. Lost track of him. Last email he sent me he felt some heat from an IED.

I knew 2 Carpenters. I forgot which one but I think Joey was a PSG in B 1/75 during my time?

Lamb I think was a Grenada Ranger? I gotta look at the bios.

McCann's doing fine. Recently retired. I saw him in April.

Served with Smith in C/3/75 during the 90s’ as SLs and PSGs. True redneck. Always wearing denim overalls during time off. Al Lamb was the Wpns PSG in B Co during Mogadishu. He came over from Delta to get his PSG time. Wpns Platoon played a big role during the battle on 3 Oct. They were the CSAR element on the Task Force. If I recalled correctly, Al earned the Silver Star for his action. Went back to Delta after his PSG time. Last I saw him was during 2000 when we shared an a/c on free fall demo jump. He was on the SOCOM team out off McDill AFB.

Nice to see Lubbers there. He was my first new to Battalion private I had after I made E-5. Use to dog the shit out of him, making him low crawl all over the barracks. Later he followed into SF and 1st Group as well. A good man. A good father and husband. A Warrior. Missed.

Rest In Peace.

Interesting also, maybe the first, Lubbers was a 71L. Administrative Specialist. Maybe one of first Tabbed soft skills MOSs from the Regiment to make RHOF? After Bat he went 18 Series.

Amazing group of men inducted into the RHOF. Truly the best of the nation. After seeing the list, I took a minute to compile the group of inductee MOH recipients; it is a testimony to the bravery and sacrifice of these men.

Yeah, saw that 1LT Kirby from RTB circa 2000.

Thai_Ranger - was Smith there in 89'? Or am I confusing him with Dennis Wilson?

Art was the weapons PSG when I arrived (87) later took over 1st Platoon. He was one of the most even keeled guys I ever served with.

Yes, Joey was B Co. You guys took a trip together.

Shelia was a rock star, every Rangers mom. If you were there due to shenanagins, you didn't want to look her in the eye.

Polypro, Smith got there late 91 after the Gulf War. He came from the Ft. Rucker's Pathfinder unit that deployed.

Spot on assessment of McCann.

B Co has done well on that list. Matt Berrena was a PSG on that deployment as well and a 2013 Inductee. Ended up being the PL.

Really good guy.

Just for the hell of it I scrolled through the entire RHOF list. I've met, worked with or for 37 of those studs.

What a privilege.

Hey Jurena. Was Maffey your Co Cmdr? Who was the B Co Cmdr before Fuller? I only heard him referred to as "Yoda".

Who is "T/5 Wellman"?

That's got to be an interesting story.

Wellman's DSC citation doesn't have a lot of details....

He was one of Merrill's Marauders.

I had Luke Green, Danny Allen, Cpt.Airborne Antonia and Jarkowski as commanders. With the following 1sgs...

Ponder
Ricketts
Indigo Alston

What a fabulous 6.5 years.

Maffey was an LT in C.co and I believe came back as a commander but not to us.

I'll have to ask some B.co boys who was before Fuller, I know the 1sg before Callahan was "Purple"Hayes. He once had all of B.co drag their wall lockers outside because the lens cover of a TVS-5 was missing.

Edited to add - its hell getting old. Hayes was the 2nd PSG and had his goons drag their wall lockers down stairs. The CO before Fuller was Maffey and before him was Bonham. Peterson was the 1sg with Maffey, then Dirty Harry Callahan, the Arlie Nethken.

If that's "Purple" Hayes... calling Dark Helmet, Mr. Dark Helmet, please report to this thread

The one and only.

I have an awesome story about him as RIP Commandant, us up there for MK19 / .50 Cal MTT, a 15 PAX van and his commandant parking spot sign, but probably not the right thread.
