Long haired hippy goes 11X !

Best to him. Way to step up to the plate and take the challenge and serve.

I enjoy seeing these articles as they show that our nation is still producing young men and women that are willing to serve our nation when things seem to be so bad. Good for him and I wish him the very best of success!

I'm with Mars, I enjoy this story. I joined in the late 80's with a whole mop-full of hair. Like most people, upon reporting to boot camp my beautiful locks were gone in 48hrs. That was one of the first lessons taught........It's no longer an I/me, its greater than that....starting now, and its up to yourself to prove your worth!!! If the .mil can get some traction outta a story like this then giddyup and exploit it all they can. Maybe it hits another kid, who will choose to serve?

My hair was much the same except different color. It was the 70's though. Once it was hacked off at Ft Jackson it was never the same.

Good luck to the young feller.

I didn't have a huge head of hair but I remember my recruiter telling me not to shave it or get a crew cut - 'you'll just draw attention to yourself'.

I congratulate the young man for stepping to the line, good luck to him and his future endeavors.

Probably the thing that shocked me the most about in processing for basic training was having to pay for the initial haircut....

I am thankful I did not wear one of my leisure suits to MEPS that fine day late 70's!

Brother, that one truly made me laugh. I could see you there with a powder-puff blue leisure suit with a nice white Tux shirt with the ruffles.

WAHL don’t care. They’ve would’ve have shaved your leisure suit back to your skinny self... :D

I’m not saying you’re skinny. At that age I was. Check my handle.

My Dad's friend told me he showed up to Paris Island just after Korea for basic with a ducktail hair cut and a pack of smokes in his sleeve. DI's were not impressed. He did give me his Santeen cover before I left for basic fifty years later that I still have.

Nah. I wouldn't do that. Besides...you got too much shit on me to retaliate.
