Some guys are just as hard as hell, but I'll bet he's the nicest guy you'll ever know, too.
I don't think he was infantry in WW2. In SE Asia, he served as an advisor to various schools (RVN Ranger, Commando) and in the Phoenix program, not in infantry units (AFIK).
