I'll take this and climb back into my retired SMU FAG cave.

Congrats Dakota.

In Halberstam's book about the early days of the Korean War, The Coldest Winter, there's a passage which recounts the commander of X Corps, Edward Almond, showing up on the battlefield after some unit had just taken horrendous losses and insisting that some men be gathered to receive Silver Stars.

Just to get him out of their hair, the Colonel in charge gathered some people at random, including a cook who had no idea what it was about, and Almond unceremoniously pinned the Silver Stars on their uniform, including that of one officer who had taken some terrible losses.

When he left, the officer who'd lost a lot of men took his Silver Star off and just threw it in the snow. No followup on what the cook did with his.

The Bronze has always been an ambiguous thing because it's perceived by the public as an award for valor whether its got the "V" or not. I wish they'd find another way of honoring administrative performance.

I think Sgt Meyer deserves all the salutes he gets.

Audie Murphy and a number of others found out that living with the MOH is sometimes harder than having died for it.

Nothing wrong with that, IMO. I've seen Bronze Stars awarded for a whole lot less than what Jessica Lynch went through.

But in principle, I agree with some of what you say about how the military can embellish even the simplest citation or report. To the untrained eye, a lot of evaluation reports can sound like the soldier is the next Patton.
Thanks for the correction -- I'm not sure why I've always been under the assumption she was given the Silver star but after researching it you're absolutely right...

Well, looks like Dakota is officially part of the Palin clan now. Wish them the best.

You gotta admit, funny as hell that Bristol named their daughter, "Sailor". I am sure most all Marines are pretty excited to find out they have a child named Sailor. LMAO.

Anyway, best to them. Sounds like they are getting their lives in order.

Marines do tend to deploy a lot, and there is an old tradition of naming kids after their fathers.

One of them is his. He should've blown that shit on her chest. With that said, I'd rather marry into the Manson Family than the Palin Family. Good luck Marine, you're gonna need it.

She should have named it Target. I think everyone had a shot at it. But seriously, I'd do her and her mom.

Congrats, Dakota

But seriously - she's hot and he has a kid with her.

As long as he keeps the rest of the family at arm's length this could work for him.
